Five Tips to Fall Prevention
Fall prevention is important. Every 14 seconds, a senior has a fall related injury. Here are five tips to preventing falls.
1. The first of our five tips to fall prevention is to review medications with Pharmacist and/or Doctor to ensure side effects aren’t causing you to fall. Read directions carefully and take medications as directed.
2. Find a good Exercise Program
Fall prevention includes building balance, flexibility and strength. Take a friend and make it an adventure. Consult your doctor if you fear physical activity because you’re afraid it will make a fall more likely, tell your doctor. He or she may recommend an exercise program. You may also work with a physical therapist to improve gait and physical strength.
3. Keep your home safe by anything that might trip you.
Increase the lighting in your home. Install grab bars to make stairs safe. Remove area rugs that may cause you to slip or trip over them. Here are some more tips to help you when Fall proofing your home.
4. Get your hearing and vision checked each year and update eyeglasses or hearing aides.
5. Talk to your Family.
Ask for support in taking simple steps to ensure your safety. Falls can happen to anyone regardless of age.
